15 Most Important Games Of This Generation

5. Angry Birds

While some gamers might scoff at its inclusion, I would be inclined to slap the wrists of those gamers and tell them to broaden their horizons. In terms of size, I struggle to think of a bigger IP exclusive this generation than the Angry Birds franchise. Easily one of the most played games of all time, it is estimated that 16 years of Angry Birds is played every hour of every day. There is no way, when considering the history book of gaming in generations to come, that Angry Birds won't at least get a hefty mention. T-shirts, slingshots, nerf guns, several movie crossovers including Star Wars, bed spreads, cakes, board games, card games, pyjamas, plushie toys. The game has seen merchandising on a level that the industry hadn't witnessed since the introduction of Pokemon. Despised by some 'hardcore' gamers for the game popularity and how it changed the market. And changed the market it has. Casual gamers undoubtedly have a massive part to play in the mediums future, and Angry Birds is the poster boy of the Casual Gaming genre. In terms of making video games an accepted artform, it acts as an important gateway for new gamers who never would have approached the medium and highlights the power that tablet may well have in the future.
