15 Most Important Games Of This Generation

3. Minecraft

Minecraft is a gaming phenomenon. Certainly a little more under the radar than Angry Birds, but still with a sizable franchise name in terms of mechandising. However, where as Angry Birds is the poster boy of casual gamers, Minecraft is the posterboy of the PC. Having become unimaginably popular, the game started on PC and has since become ported onto many platforms like iOS, Xbox 360, the upcoming Ouya etc. Minecraft showed that you don't need a AAA graphics and matchmaking to have strong multiplayer with a rich single player experience. I think Minecraft is one of the first major stepping stones towards the return of PC gaming on a truly massive scale. While based on a fair amount of guess work, it is no secret that the PC is going from strength to strength. Many believe that it could make console gaming obsolete within the next few years and with people like Valve's Gabe Newell talking about integrating the PC into the living room, there are few reasons why it couldn't. Minecraft could very well be seen as a transitional game from this generation to the next and even if the PC doesn't rise to prominence over the Xbox or PS4, it has created a massive following who enjoy a creative and rewarding experience through the medium of gaming. That is why, even if you take all the guess work out of my argument, Minecraft deserves to be on this list.
