15 Most Infuriating Video Game Boss Battles Of The 2000s

7. Yunalesca - Final Fantasy X

RPGs might have the monopoly on truly great boss fights. What other genre has so many underlying mechanics, stats and items that it could then ask you to combine just to overcome a specific creature? For Yunalesca it was a mix of that (where she'd insta-kill any living fighters, meaning you'd have to self-inflict Zombie on yourself), alongside a bevy of lifebar-sapping attacks - and a whopping three stages to the entire fight. Seriously, the amount of forward-planning you had to do was insane. You might struggle through the initial battle and conserve enough items to then make it to the second bout, but with Yuna getting stronger and more effective through each passing turn, by the time stage three rolled around it was instant-death time for you, and ultimate power time for her. Needless to say this is quite possibly the hardest main quest boss in Final Fantasy history (remember FF VII's Omega Weapon was optional), and a point of difficulty that Square Enix have seldom returned to.
