15 Most Mind-Blowing Video Game Plot Twists Of The 2000s

1. Big Boss Is Still Alive - Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots

For the top spot, a twist that despite the series' foundations being built on them, still knocked everyone for a loop, picked us back up, and did it all over again. Come the close of MGS 4 you'll have been through everything from realising the game's supernatural characters are powered by ludicrous amounts of nanomachines, to fighting a bare-chested OAP on a ocean liner, and even watching the happy couple of Johnny Sasaki and Meryl get married in the company of a cola-drinking monkey. However, that pales in comparison to the revelation the original Big Boss (star of Metal Gear's 3, Peace Walker and Phantom Pain no less) is still alive. And not only is he still alive, but his half-charred corpse from the original Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake has been Frankenstein'd back into being by attaching limbs from his 'sons', Liquid and Solidus Snake. Even if that wasn't enough, it turns out he's been in a computer-regulated cryo-sleep, awakening and going on his own plot thread scavenger hunt when you shut down the governing body of computer systems at the close of the game. He has a heart-to-heart with Snake, reveals the franchise's core motives of life, dedication to the mission and freewill are all tied to a man on the verge of death, suffocates said man resulting in said death, and then dies smoking a cigar with his remaining son, Solid Snake. Keep up with all that? No? That's exactly why it's the craziest plot twist of the 2000s, and if you did keep track, you know the madness of Metal Gear all too well and can revel in the absurdity all the same. What's your favourite plot twist from the decade that was the 2000s? Let us know in the comments!
