15 Most Overrated Video Games Of The Generation (So Far)
13. Resident Evil 7
Resident Evil 7 was exactly what Capcom's failing franchise needed. Completely righting the ship after the disastrous sixth game, the sequel dropped the series' signature format in favour of something radically different. For the most part it succeeded, but Resi 7 still comes nowhere near the heights of the series' best entries.
Returning to true survival-horror gameplay was the best thing Capcom could have done for fans, but unfortunately the combat that came from the new horror-inspired perspective often felt clunky and unresponsive. Not only that but the game's reliance on repeatedly using the same enemies eventually stripped all of the suspense away from combat encounters the more the campaign progressed.
A completely botched ending didn't help matters either, proving that the developers hadn't completely learned their lesson when it came to crowbarring in action where it's not needed.
Throwing away perfectly pitched horror elements in favour of all-out action, the game lost its way by trying to create a cinematic climax in the final third, managing to sour everything that came before.
