Sometimes you just can't beat a damn good third-person shooter. Across the 2000s especially, Gears of War's influence was everywhere - so much so, it put the majority of publishers off licensing more titles in that same vein.

While Sniper Elite is way more MGS V-style open-world stealth than run n' gun, it's a reminder that a distanced perspective in a tactile shooter is a great way to engage scores of enemies at once, picking a route through a level and busting out the occasional melee kill as you go.

Sniper Elite's shtick is following any bullet in super slow-motion to its target, but this fourth instalment is actually a franchise best thanks to expertly designed levels, great abilities, fun equipment and weapons with the perfect amount of kick.
