15 Video Games That Every True Gamer Should Have Completed
14. The Last Of Us
Perhaps one of the greatest reasons, if not the reason for owning a Playstation 3, this exclusive PS3 title rounded out the last generation with style, sadness, loneliness and almost unprecedented levels of video game storytelling. At first glance, this seems like just any other game. It's set in a post-apocalyptic world where most of the human race has fallen to a virus, there's hugely disfigured zombie things with plants growing out of their faces and you're cast as a grizzled antihero who's lost practically everything he's loved and is on the path to redemption. Sounds pretty generic right? In the hands of any other game developer, The Last of Us could well have been just another forgettable experience. In the capable hands of Naughty Dog, the pioneers behind the huge Uncharted series, this game quickly went from being just another game to a true masterpiece that simply must be experienced. The most fundamentally amazing thing about this game is not the gameplay mechanics (which are excellent), but the development and believability of the characters, the world they inhabit and the growth of their relationships. It feels real, with tight dialogue, incredible levels of detail in the world around you and by the end will have you an emotional wreck with all the heartstrings it tugs. Couple this together with unique gameplay with a focus on stealth, conserving your resources and fighting threats both human and monstrous and you've got yourself ten hours plus of fantastic. This may be a tale of redemption for our grizzled antihero, but it's a tale that is almost untouchable by all but the very finest games.
