15 Video Games That REWARD YOU For Playing Badly

4. Mario Kart

Crash Bandicoot
Nintendo

Mario Kart is home to the most infamous of all kart racer powerups- the spiny shell, better known the world over as blue shell. It's the biggest F you to an opponent in the history of arcade games, and has caused many a fight between friends.

The scourge of the track from the very beginning, when it first appeared in Mario Kart 64 the blue shell would only be available to the racer in last place- whether through mere misfortune or disastrous driving.

This homing missile targets first place, slowing them down enough for the rest of the pack to catch up, and being hit by it just as you are about to cross the finish line is more infuriating than anything else in gaming.

More recent instalments have allowed other positions to pick up the shell, and since Mario Kart 7 it may hit other racers on its way to the front of the pack.

Considering it takes no skill other than a combination of both (paradoxically) misfortune and luck, it's a deadly lifeline granted to the worst of racers that can change the outcome of a race, through no fault of the player in pole.

If you use it, prepare to make enemies.

I'm perfectly sane, or so the voices tell me. British, sarcastic, president of the European Slinky Association, have a tendency to lie when listing things about myself. 100% guilty of being a massive geek obsessed with Doctor Who, Harry Potter and video games. If you can't find me on the internet, I'm probably locked in a room playing Spyro the Dragon on my old PlayStation, or blowing everything to smithereens with a concrete donkey on Worms: Armageddon.
