9. P.T. Lives On - Metal Gear Solid V
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6CYb2zIRKc Thank the gaming lords for Sony signing Hideo Kojima to a new exclusive PS4 project, as the working conditions he and his team were under to complete MGS V were truly abhorrent. However, absurd deadlines and forced content cuts didn't dissuade them from including a ton of heart across every second, and though Konami also cancelled P.T. (the demo for reboot Silent Hills), Kojima Productions included a reference in MGS V anyway. Appearing on a radio that replicates the audio transmission from P.T. (where the horrors of that game's story describe a man butchering his wife and unborn child), MGS V uses it to great effect. Mission 28 is steeped in gloomy atmosphere as you're forced to locate the mysterious Code Talker, yet get confronted by the supernatural Parasite Unit, and it's a perfect - if completely coincidental - fit. You can't take the tape with you, but if Kojima and Guillermo del Toro never get round to actually making the full version of their initial vision, at least it's already living on inside The Phantom Pain.
