15. Reznov Isn't Real - Call Of Duty: Black Ops
Black Ops' story is actually one that's pretty remarkably effective, especially for a Call of Duty game. Co-written by the Blade franchise-killing David S. Goyer, Blops (as it's known) elected to tell a tale of one agent Mason, your protagonist who kept being asked about a series of numbers yet couldn't place what they were - instead all he remembered was a series of missions and one Viktor Reznov who appeared in all of them. Some say the twist that Reznov continues on as a figment of your imagination is obvious if you're paying attention to how any NPC only ever greets Mason despite him being present, but for the vast majority of people when the trippy ending sequence started playing out and Mason's memories clashed with the expository "All is not what it seems" nature of the script, this was a fantastic new direction for the franchise that sadly petered out with the bangs n' whistles of Blops 2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tk4zVuhy-I
