14. It's All In Your Head - Hotline Miami

Well, most of it is anyway, as throughout Devolver Digital's fantastically ultra-violent tale of what appears to be one man answering encrypted phone calls, only to then butcher rooms of people at a time - it's all revealed this is inside his mind. It's quite the mind-blowing twist - literally - as when character Jacket find out, his mind does actually pop, giving you a very visually-arresting shot, before the game resumes with you in a hospital bed. From there you'll do a couple of levels in the real world, finding out the origins of those mysterious phone calls that set everything in motion (meaning your character entered the coma halfway through the game) and eventually letting you solve the mystery, providing you'd amassed some secret collectibles that open up a different dialogue option at the very end. Fans to this day debate what's really going on in Hotline's final few scenes, but either way you slice it the whole 'it was all a dream' ending hasn't been done with anywhere near this much weight and purpose in decades.
