We couldn't pick just one, so barring the action-focus of five and the godawful direction of six, we'd still point to any of the classic Resi titles as offering the perfect mix of survival horror. Everything from the nightmarish notion of a gigantic lumbering menace who won't leave you alone in part three to one of the greatest jump-scares of all time thanks to a few window-smash-happy dogs, there's a reason even the newest titles in the genre like The Evil Within are still very much in the mould of classic Resident Evil. Sadly the remastered version for newer consoles won't be out in time for Halloween, but the original is still on the Playstation Store - and like a classic of the horror cinema world, it's timely graphics are just part of the fun.
