If (and that's a very big if) Yu Suzuki and his studio Ys Net manage to somehow get Shenmue III working, finished and consumer-ready by the tail end of 2017, it'll be nothing short of a small miracle.

Sixteen years - read those two words aloud - that's how long Mr. Suzuki has had to wait until he finally had the chance to realise his dream of giving fans a sequel to 2001's Shenmue II, but can it possibly live up to fan expectation?

It's too early to call just yet, but the original two games are so adored because they literally helped to pioneer the sandbox genre, not to mention invent (and use to great effect) the QTE system so often seen today in modern games.

Shenmue III will live and die by how well long term series fans receive it upon release. We just need to have faith that Suzuki can provide a suitable follow-up after almost two decades.
