Could this really be the triumphant return to survival horror that Resident Evil fans have been wishing for? As of now, all signs point to an emphatic yes.

The Beginning Hour demo released at this year's E3, along with several gameplay teasers dispatched over the last few weeks all point to a very hopeful outcome; Capcom has finally listened to its fans and taken its most iconic franchise back to basics, so to speak.

With narrative bloat having been stripped to the bone and the unwanted emphasis on action rather than survival put to rest, Resident Evil 7 is shaping up to be the purest survival horror entry in the series since we first barged our way through the doors to the Spencer Mansion, already exasperated from being chased by reanimated mutts.

For the first time in a long time, I'm excited about playing a new Resident Evil game. Roll on January.
