Commander Shepard's (anti)climactic struggle against squid-shaped robots, ghostly children and Martin Sheen finally came to an end in 2012 with Mass Effect 3, and now that we've had almost five years to scrub that ending from memory, it's time to move on.

EA and BioWare are promising a grand new adventure for fans of the sci-fi series come spring 2017, with a whole new setting, characters and narrative set to be at the forefront.

References to the original trilogy will no doubt crop up on a regular basis in Andromeda, but I, for one, can't wait to relive the sense of discovery I first experienced with the original Mass Effect.

From what's been shown so far, production values are off the charts, so expect a visual tour de force come March.
