Man, I'm ready for some Gears of War. Are you? Epic hit onto a third-person formula that ended up being their undoing over the 2000s, as every franchise under the sun suddenly had the 'stop n' pop' cover mechanics they'd perfected so well in the original 2006 release. Gears 3 and Judgment following so close to each other put the series on ice as we just didn't want another 'gruff space marines shooting dudes' game for a good few years - especially one with Baird and Cole as the protagonists. Luckily, the fourth main instalment (tentatively titled 'Gears 4') is looking to introduce a whole new group of characters, headed up by twin protagonists JD and Kait. That's pretty much all we know, but with Microsoft gunning for Sony's position as the leader of the console race across all of 2016, having the might of Gears' PR pulling power should serve them well.
