16 Severely Underrated Video Games That Deserve A Second Chance
2. Evolve
Don't bust out the pitchforks just yet, Evolve hasn't suddenly changed from a DLC-focussed shooter into some single-player extravaganza that'll make you glad you bought some new hardware. HOWEVER, it does offer a very unique multiplayer mode, an interesting Gears-style world and *whisper it* some cracking solo stuff too. Basically, if the overwhelmingly negative press surrounding this blinded you to what's really on offer, it's a diametrically-opposed multiplayer where one player embodies an ever-growing (evolving, even) beast, and the other four take up unique roles they'll have to combine to beat it. For casual solo players there's the option to string together five separate arenas to form some part of a story (that being you versus the monsters) whereby your actions in one effect the next, and so on. The rub comes within learning and playing your class as best you can, but from the eSports leagues that take everything extremely seriously to a quick casual game at home, Evolve's modes are great fun - it's just a shame Turtle Rock shot themselves in the foot by announcing the game was 'built from the ground up with DLC in mind' last year. Play it with a more casual COD/FIFA/Madden-like approach, and it all falls into place nicely.
