For some you need only string together the words "first-person" and "platforming" and they'll run for the hills, and although Mirror's Edge has way too much pace and combat to be considered purely in that genre, it's precisely because of its unique mash-up of ideals that meant only a fraction of people picked it up. Thankfully, being a free-running messenger darting between futuristic rooftops whilst occasionally thwacking guards upside the head with well-placed kicks is a premise nobody forgot once they got stuck in, and it's a testament to the power of a cult fanbase that a sequel was granted last year - albeit one that's fairly shrouded in mystery. With that announcement coming at E3 last year it made tens of thousands of people realise they had a gaping hole in their essential games list, and with a reputation as one of the most original and instantly engaging titles out there, it's worth picking up for just a handful of coins these days.
