16 Video Games That Would Make Perfect Animated Movies
4. Donkey Kong Country
Donkey Kong appearing in his own movie would be nothing short of poetic, as Nintendo had to fight Universal itself for the gorilla's very right to exist. Of course, when it comes to animated film material, it's the Donkey Kong Country series which stands out from the pack. From its creation, DKC was already very cartoon-like, from its highly-animated tie-wearing star to the legions of crocodile-people who opposed him in the Kremlings, and even down to such mannerisms as Rambi the rhino panting like a dog when left alone for a moment. And while the technology then was nowhere near what is available today, some of these elements were enough to inspire an episodic animated television show. Naturally, one would reasonably expect any sort of new Donkey Kong Country feature to more closely resemble the newer games in look. Thanks to the efforts of Retro Studios, that would also mean an opportunity for some interesting visuals for film audiences, such as scenes inspired by the silhouetted stages of Donkey Kong Country Returns and Tropical Freeze. That said, while the visual style of the newer games is more desirable, the original Super NES trilogy is a much more appealing source for story and characters, such as the crazed King K. Rool.
