Nothing says 'survival horror' like cover-shooting, right? How about zombies with machine guns, or a protagonist with arms wider than your legs? Yup, bring on the scares.

Alas, Resi 6 will remain the game that put the last nail in the franchise's coffin after the already gun-happy Resi 5. It did do a few things right, what with splitting the campaign up into multiple character-led chapters - in theory meaning they could've pleased every pocket of fans with each one - yet the Redfield portion of this was just a straight-up shooter.

Gears of War, this ain't, yet you're continually thrown into quick-time events and sections where the only objective is to cut through waves of zombies with turrets and machine guns. Nobody wanted this, nobody enjoyed this, and you can point to the change in genre as precisely why Resident Evil 7 is forever on the back burner.
