17 Classic Video Games That Must Be Remade

6. Metal Gear 1 & 2

Metal Gear
Konami

Original Release Dates: July 13, 1987 (Metal Gear), July 20, 1990 (Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake)

Hideo Kojima's original two Metal Gear games stand apart from the rest of the franchise due to their decidedly more simplistic style and gameplay mechanics, to the point that Kojima himself has stated an interest in remaking these games to make them more consistent with the newer MGS titles.

Fans have been asking for it for years, because there's clearly a strong foundation here which could be significantly expanded upon and fleshed-out for a richer experience. Can you imagine getting to play the Solid Snake-Gray Fox minefield fistfight in the Fox Engine?

How Likely Is It?: Kojima's acrimonious split from Konami sadly makes this incredibly unlikely, unless Kojima is somehow able to wrangle the rights away from Konami in the future, which is even less likely.

It's possible that Konami could go ahead and do it without Kojima's involvement, but given how loyal fans are to Kojima and his vision, that would go down very, very badly.
