17 Last-Gen Video Games That Will Be Viewed As Classics In Years To Come
6. Red Dead Redemption
GTA with horses. That's what most people thought RDR was going to be. They were wrong; Red Dead Redemption was more than just a Grand Theft Auto clone, it was a living, breathing and brutal foray into the Wild West with its own unique gameplay, more great Rockstar storytelling and remains as fun to play today as when it was first released. Sure it may have all the hallmarks of GTA - big open world, loads of missions, horses instead of cars - but the presentation, world design and gameplay mechanics are their own beast. A story about a former outlaw turned farmer forced to return to his old ways by a corrupt government, Red Dead Redemption showed us how even the most hardened of criminals can be a character we can sympathise with. The last few missions in particular are the most poignant; after completing his mission, John Marston returns home to his farm, is reunited with his family and sets about living his life. Gone are the guns and the killings; instead it's herding cows and spending time with his kids. This makes what happens next all the more shocking. John is betrayed by the government and - after saving his family - emerges for a last stand where he faces overwhelming, impossible odds. This moment is perhaps one of the most memorable storytelling sections of the last generation, and rightly so.
