17 Last-Gen Video Games That Will Be Viewed As Classics In Years To Come
5. Bioshock
Somewhere....beyond the sea.... ...lies a dystopian nightmare filled with art deco, big monsters in diving suits and people who can throw fireballs at each other after injecting the squishy bits of genetically-enhanced slugs into their eyeballs. Filled with atmosphere and believability, the world of Rapture is a genuinely enthralling and terrifying exploration of what could happen to the human race when we're unaffected by morality, humanity and where laws can be bended by people with far too much power. A story about the fall of a secret city situated leagues under the sea and exploring it afterwards, Rapture has fallen to its broken society, a crazy mess of warring factions who are obsessed with the power-giving drug ADAM and its all powerful manipulative leaders and the power struggle between them. In the middle is you, a protagonist who conveniently crashes outside the lighthouse path to Rapture after the plane you're flying in smashes into the sea. That's the story as you know it until halfway through. Then, all of a sudden, Rapture blows your mind when it is revealed that you, throughout the entire game, have been controlled by a manipulative entity using the simple phrase 'Would You Kindly?'. The big reveal has so much impact it's one of those moments where your mouth just drops open in surprise. It seems so obvious after you're told, but we can confidently say that no one saw that coming. Unfortunately the inevitable sequel to Bioshock wasn't quite as good as the original. It's hard to beat what is pretty perfect to begin with.
