17 Last-Gen Video Games That Will Be Viewed As Classics In Years To Come
4. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
We used to love going outside, but then we took a Skyrim to the knee. Still extremely impressive three years after its original release, the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is one of the biggest - and most impressive - games ever created. Arriving on a sea of hype, Skyrim delivered both critically and commercially when it finally hit stores in November 2011, spawning forth a ridiculous amount of memes, causing us all to lose several days of our existence and firmly implanting the phrase FUS RO DA in our internal dictionaries forevermore. After revitalising the series with Oblivion some years before, developers Bethesda set out to really push the boat out with Skyrim. Here is a game where there's hundreds of hours worth of content; where exploring a simple shoreline might find a hidden reward or a world where - without warning - an overpowered dragon will come to burn you to cinders. The expansiveness continues even further for those who bought the generous DLC offerings after release and - for many gamers - Skyrim is still something they return to regularly. Given its size and huge achievements, it's hard to imagine what they might come up with the almost inevitable sequel for current gen, presumably the Elder Scrolls 6. With the added power of the new consoles/higher end PCs, the next foray into the world of the Scrolls may well be one of the most impressive games in history all over again.
