17 Last-Gen Video Games That Will Be Viewed As Classics In Years To Come

13. Gears Of War 2

Chest-high walls and guns with chainsaws were firmly established in the first game in the Gears series, but its sequel proved that this series has so much more to offer than just that. With a stronger narrative, some genuinely brilliant set pieces, better acting all around from the cast and plenty of epic feels, Gears 2 has memorable moment after memorable moment. Who can forget cutting up a giant worm from the inside out with your Lancer, or the heartbreaking moment when Dom has to euthanise his wife, who has been royally screwed up by the evil Locust hordes? For those who love a bit of online multiplayer antics, Gears 2 also ramped things up with a highly popular multiplayer component that many of us played forever trying to get that one achievement where you had to kill about 10 million other players. It's such a shame that Gears 3 and Judgment seemed to completely squander the foundations laid by this title. Both were inferior to the second title in the series and while Gears 2 set up intriguing mysteries, 3 didn't resolve them in ways that had any impact. Let us hope that the Xbox One Gears of War will take the series back to its roots. That's chainsawing things to bits. If it's giant-sized and from the inside, that's good too.
