18 Best Indie Games Of The Decade (So Far)
11. Mark Of The Ninja
Stealth in 2D; they said it couldn't be done - but Klei's coding prowess just can't be beat, and when they execute on the idea with such a perfected purpose, Mark of the Ninja isn't just a proof of concept, but one of the best stealth titles of all time.
The first thing that'll strike you is just how much this feels like you're playing a cartoon - in the best way possible. The no-named Ninja himself slinks and skulks through shadows and vents perfectly, with enemy reactions to your sounds being the brillaint eyes-wide "Huh?!" that connotes the most loveable parts of any 2D Disney feature.
Then there's the progression system that sees you unlocking everything from spiked trip-mines to even the ability to teleport later in the game. Complimenting the exquisite feel of playing as a demon of the night with a variety of skins, a ranking system for each level and some of the best level design and challenge rooms ever put together, Klei are easily one of the greatest talents at work today.
