18 Best Indie Games Of The Decade (So Far)
10. Gone Home
For some the very idea of a game edging towards being a 'narrative experience' is cause to run for the hills, but if ever needed one title to put in front of those people and say "Just play..." it would be this.
See, although Gone Home is about a gap year student who after being away returns to a new family home devoid of life, with only an ominous note on the door to set you off - it's designed with gamers in mind, in every respect.
If you've played any first-person survival horror games you're going to approach the 'world' of Gone Home very differently than if not, and depending on how you compile clues or how meticulous you are at searching rooms you're going to piece together various amounts of the story relating to your missing family members at a different pace. Whatever happens it all feels like it's coming together only for you - and therein lies the beauty of it.
When the game does finally reveal its hand and does touch down at the very end, you'll be left with a very emotional tale that'll only effect you the more you think about it - as well as making you question everything about how we play these games in the first place.
Ominous? Yes, but that should be all you need to give Fullbright Studios' finest a shot - you won't be disappointed.
