5. Abzû

Maybe after a few months' worth of gunning down everything in sight, you just want to relax with a few thousand fish? Or latch onto a dolphin as it somersaults through the air, the midday sun bouncing off the waves all around?

Abzû is that experience, created by ex-Journey artist Matt Nava and the game's composer, Austin Wintory. Together they carry across that ephemeral, relaxing 'essence' of thatgamecompany's 2012 masterpiece, plunging you into the depths of the sea in a way that connotes David Attenborough's Planet Earth.

There is something of a story to take in when it comes to analysing artefacts and their purpose, but Abzû's main thrust is not having one at all - just exhale, swim with the fish and marvel at the stunning presentation.
