6. Spider Mastermind - DOOM

As one of the most self-confident releases in quite some time, iD Software knew exactly what they were doing when relaunching DOOM for an entirely new audience - all the way down to the final boss.

Called the Spider Mastermind, this concoction of heavy metal album covers has been around since the series' inception, but never have we been able to finish him off in such overblown style.

Brandishing the appropriately-named BFG weapon, after an intense fight of jump-dodges and rocket-flurries you'll be presented with the Mastermind in a flashing state, indicating you can move in for the kill.

Now, we'd seen the BFG's energy blasts turn entire rooms of enemies to mulch in seconds, so of course, Doomguy sticks the thing right in its mouth, pulling the trigger and scattering ol' Spidey's brain matter across the walls.

The game just ends right there, too. Like iD Software just finished the most epic extended thrash metal jam of all time, before unplugging their mics and walking off stage.
