18 Best Video Game Boss Battles Of The Last 10 Years

1. Liquid Ocelot - Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots

For the top spot, the absolute king of spectacle, meaning, memorability and in-the-moment satisfaction? It has to be MGS 4's all-singing, all franchise-tributing duel between Solid Snake and Liquid Ocelot.

Coming as the culmination of a decade of storytelling , Hideo Kojima pulled out all the stops to end the game's chronology in style. Starting off as a base slugfest, both combatants have the threat/promise of nuclear annihilation on their shoulders, escalating into the pair injecting each other with nanomachine stimulants, just to have the most overblown fight of all time.

What really takes it to the next level though, is the game's HUD and score actually changes to emulate the other games in the franchise, really hammering home just how long these two have been at each others' throats on both sides of the screen.

Metal Gear always had a unique connection to its fanbase, the industry and the medium of gaming. This mashing of fan service, the climax of storytelling and the sheer brutality with which Snake and Ocelot smash each others' faces in makes it one of the best-designed boss battles of all time, and especially the last 10 years.
