10. Surfing The Sand Dunes - Journey

If you're currently ploughing through The Witcher 3 you might've happened upon the unabashed childlike joy that comes with surfing down the sides of cliffs too steep to climb. However, it's a sensation first perfected by Journey, thatgamecompany's indie gem-turned-very big deal indeed that went on to kickstart the indie revolution in earnest. Playing as a small hooded figure with somewhat feminine characteristics, the developer essentially whisper "...proceed..." and watch you discover a gorgeously-rendered world doused in religious iconography, themed artwork paying homage to various cultures across the globe - and a very real sense of adventure if another voiceless player is randomly dropped in keep you company. The highpoint comes around a third in, when as the glorious score builds to a crescendo you start carving a path through the sand, picking up speed and occasionally gliding between obstacles - before an unbelievably enrapturing sun starts setting behind you. Seriously, it's beautiful.
