15. The Last Of Us Remastered

The game that really advanced gaming as a storytelling medium and the one that has gone on to be regarded as "gaming's Citizen Kane moment", Naughty Dog's maturation as a studio was no more evident than in the spectacular The Last of Us.

Remastering the original only a year after release was clearly just to produce a version for the PS4, but it does improve textures and lighting somewhat. The biggest addition is the 'photo mode', letting you share snaps of near-death and zombie infestation-blasting online.

Gameplay is punchy and mostly contains a mix of exploration and third-person shooting/stealth, but the real takeaways are the storytelling, where Uncharted's Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley have crafted one for the ages. The basic premise of father Joel taking care of young Ellie and transporting her across the Boston tundra are all you need to know - that, and the fact Naughty Dog's exemplary coding skills make the entire production burst with a masterful touch.
