18 Essential PS4 Games Every Owner Must Play

14. The Witness

Far too many gamers will be put off The Witness, purely because of how affrontingly stand-offish creator Jonathan Blow's tone can be. See, the entire experience is framed to be an interactive manifestation of creative thought: How do we interpret information? To what end? What does it mean to be one with your fellow human, and how much of that is conditioned by societies, countries, or the planet itself?

It's some very heavy stuff, but at the heart of it are some of the most fiendishly addictive and !*$% genius puzzle designs you'll ever come across. Based entirely off connecting a line with an eventual dot, you'll come to be familiar with different symbols that dictate different rules (keep the black dots away from the white dots, for example).

The Witness has a language all its own, and its in understanding and becoming fluent in this, that by game's end you'll essentially be like Tank in The Matrix, looking only at code, but seeing an entire picture on the other side. And that itself, makes for an initial trip through the game that'll really stick with you.

The Witness is available to buy from Amazon.
