Birthed from the coding geniuses at CD Projekt RED, they bought the rights to produce a game on Andrzej Sapkowski's wondrous series from the author himself, before setting about making a trilogy of titles so globally successful, Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk once gave a copy to Obama as thanks for his visit.

The Witcher 3 is the culmination of everything the developer strived for across the past decade, introducing open-world elements, expanding on hero Geralt of Rivia's place as a supernatural bounty hunter and delivering the singlemost impressive and beautiful open-world seen yet.

It's truly the one game so far that feels as though it wouldn't have been possible on previous hardware, and will suck you in for an insane amount of time before you see the end credits (my personal tally is flying above 400 hours at time of writing). Monsters are unique encounters that require studying to bring down, the story is an emotional tale of the White Wolf seeking out his adopted daughter and even side missions are better constructed than other games' entire campaigns.

The Witcher 3 is an achievement in game design no matter how you look at it, and should be a mainstay on your shelf from here until the end of the current console cycle.
