18 Greatest Role-Playing Games Of The Decade (So Far)

1. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Skyrim Special Edition
Bethesda

For as much as The Witcher expertly lays out its world, characters and overall narrative, there's something about Skyrim's deft balance of player agency, background mythology and experimental nature that just lets you live there.

It's the seemingly endless amounts of dialogue recorded for every action and interaction you can partake in, the fact that to this day I'd wage not one of you had the exact same experience as the other, or that the world itself is so steeped in scope and scale, it genuinely feels like you're stepping into another world every time.

Skyrim might just be Bethesda's greatest achievement from across their entire career, and with it barely ageing a day since that original 2011 release date, it's only going to be held in greater stead going forward.

Behold, the best RPG of the decade so far: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
