18 Greatest Role-Playing Games Of The Decade (So Far)
11. Divinity: Original Sin
Speaking of addictive gameplay loops, Divinity: Original Sin is a 'pen n' paper' old-school RPG for the new generation, one where every part of the world around you reacts to your spells and abilities.
It's this framework that keys you in to doing something like electrifying a body of water to shock a ton of enemies at once, or to throw any parts of the environment directly at them instead. It's almost Magicka-esque in its playfulness, but with a solid cerebral head on its shoulders.
By being old school in every regard, combat is turn-based, with points being doled out depending on where your party are standing and what you're trying to pull off. Thanks to the top-down view you'll end up planning a number of moves in advance, and like with every other turn-based tactical RPG, there's no feeling like when a plan comes together.
