18 Greatest Video Games Of The PlayStation 3/Xbox 360 Generation

17. Fallout 3

Fallout's move into 3D might not have pleased everyone (in fact, it annoyed much of the fanbase) but it proved to be a great decision overall. With Bethesda taking control of the series, it could have easily turned into a post-apocalyptic version of the Elder Scrolls (and it some ways, it did) but the series kept a unique style and personality which separates it from every other game out there. Fallout 3 is a game that's rich in atmosphere; the Capitol Wasteland might be a desolate place but there's plenty to explore and discover within it. The main story might be quite short (fans were massively disappointed by the ending too) but there's a huge variety of quests to discover and complete; seeing and doing everything will take a large amount of time. All of that would be for naught if the combat was rubbish, but Bethesda had us covered there too. The VATS system adds a much needed tactical element and the game caters for a lot of play-styles simultaneously. The wait for a full sequel has been unbearable but judging by the quality of Fallout 3, it will be well worth it.

I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
