4. Xbox One X Launches For $500

At E3, Microsoft fully unveiled the Xbox One X, confirming that it would release in November of last year for $500.

Though there's no denying the immense power under the hood of the Xbox One X, and that you'd struggle to create a competing PC for the same price, the cost was nevertheless seen as too expensive for what Microsoft was offering.

This was no doubt compounded by the more reasonable price tags of, say, the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One S - inferior machines though they undeniably are - not to mention the lack of major, exclusive titles being released with 4K in mind.

On the flip side, Microsoft always designed the console for enthusiasts rather than casuals, and the Xbox One X still pulled solid sales figures in its release week. However, for a mid-generational "console refresh", $500 came as quite the shock.
