8. Sony's Revamping Kratos To Give Him A Conscience
It was about time, right? I've actually dove headlong into the ramifications of everyone's favourite angry Spartan growing up over here, but sufficed to say, NO ONE expected God of War's signature style to replaced with a Last of Us/Dark Souls hybrid.
As it is, the gameplay chunk we saw pitted 'Papa Kratos' as a father figure. Set after the original trilogy has concluded, Kratos finds himself retired to a life of living in the woods with an unseen wife/girlfriend figure, and a young boy. Taking the latter out hunting, gameplay consisted of mentoring the child amidst battling a number of creatures and one huge boss monster.
The best part is a subtle outstretching of the hand as Kratos attempts to make a connection with the boy, only to withdraw at the last second. It tells you everything you need to know about the version of Kratos we'll be getting, and if Sony are aiming to turn Naughty Dog's more mature style into a signature brand trait, we'll be in for a treat when it finally releases.
