10. Failing To Survive The Night - Five Nights At Freddy's

Five Nights At Freddy's puts you in the shoes of Mike Schmidt, the night watchman at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. Ol' Mikey wiles away the hours doing about exactly what you'd expect of a man in his position - staring at a wall of security cameras for hours on end. Sounds like an easy night in, doesn't it? Well, it would be, except for one small wrinkle: the animatronics. You see, it's explained to you via Mike's predecessor that the animatronics are allowed to roam at night to prevent their servos from locking up, so it's normal to spot a few weird things on the surveillance feed from time to time. You're also told that the reason the animatronics are no longer allowed to roam during the day is because of an incident which resulted in the loss of a customer's frontal lobe. So, yeah... there's THAT little detail too. Five Nights At Freddy's setup is relatively simple - you're given control of the camera feed, as well as doors on both sides of the security room, and every time you cycle through the various viewpoints or close the doors, battery power is drained. As you bounce through the cameras, you'll notice animatronics disappearing, and then reappearing in new locations. You won't actually see them move (they're much too clever for that), but every time you look away, they seem to get closer and closer (think the hedge animals from Stephen King's The Shining). And if you happen to exhaust battery power before they reach the security room, you'll have no way of shutting the doors on them. And trust me when I say that the first time you're too sapped of battery power to stop the animatronics from getting in is an experience you're not likely to forget. It's a jump scare through and through, but damn if it doesn't make you screech like a schoolgirl.
