7. Don't Look Now, But... - Slender: The Eight Pages

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMZwcO1q4y8&list=WL&index=13 The bogeyman of the internet age was the basis of a 2012 indie game which tasks you with retrieving the titular eight pages while doing your best to avoid crossing Slenderman's path as he silently stalks you across the barren wilderness. Taking a minimalist approach to horror, Slender deprives you of anything that could be considered even remotely protective, and instead relies on visual and auditory trickery to emphasize Slenderman's presence - a drumbeat heard in the background ramps up in intensity with every page you collect, and when you couple that with the visual static, the result is an overpowering sense of inevitability as an invisible countdown looms over your every step. Then there's the man himself - as looking directly at him for too long will result in death, you're forced to fight against your natural urge to peek and ignore his presence; which is nearly impossible to do, for obvious reasons. After all, if I were to tell you not to think of a faceless, long-limbed phantom, what do you think would be the first thing that popped into your head?
