19 WTF Moments From Quantum Break

17. That Cheesy CGI

Quantum Break
Remedy

Much has been made of Remedy's ambitious decision to insert 25-minute live-action TV episodes at the end of each of the game's first four acts, showing the perspective of the game's villains. Whether you think it works or not, there's one fact that's hard to argue with: it's cheesy as all hell.

For starters, it's shot on digital and lit in a way that evokes a SyFy Channel sci-fi serial desperately trying to look expensive. Foremost, though, it's the array of unconvincing visual effects shots, perhaps most egregiously the one pictured above, of big bad Paul Serene staring out a window in imposing fashion as various awkwardly-composited objects (including a seagull) flash in front of us.

It's wholly abundant that Gillen's just standing in a green screen and the entire thing was warped around him at a render house, and somewhat reinforces what the more skeptical among us expected from the live-action stuff. Whether you can look past the visual ropiness will be down to individual taste.
