13. Resistance 2
Although loads of fuss was made about the first game in the series at the time, Resistance 2 is by far the best of the trilogy in my humble opinion. The first game felt more like a shooter of the older generation - slightly janky, with a bit weird gameplay. It was good at the time, but it really doesn't hold up anymore if you go back to it. Resistance 2 however, does. It's a game developed by Insomniac (of Ratchet and Clank fame) so this game has some genuinely great weapon design that differ from what we usually get in games. How about a pistol that fires a sticky round that then explodes? How about a rifle that can actually fire through material to hit things on the other side? How about a grenade that explodes into lots of spiky points? Great stuff. The storyline of RS2, while not incredible, is also much more coherent and well presented than the original was. There's also plenty of spectacle thrown in for good measure as well, with big bad monsters, stuff getting destroyed and a grim, oppressive atmosphere.
