12. Batman: Arkham City
While the Dark Knight trilogy was busy reviving the struggling superhero movie market, Batman was also taking the game industry by storm. It felt like ages since wed had a great superhero video game but Rocksteady created a game worthy of the Caped Crusader. Most of the major criminals turn up in Arkham even if only for a brief cameo but the central plot is centered on The Joker and Dr Strange. Hugo Strange has control of the cordoned off sector of the city and Batmans mission is to investigate whats happening behind the walls. The simple combat system returns and it is easy to dominate a group of foes in a few seconds. Rocksteady have done wonders with making the player truly feel like Batman. The ability to drop a smoke pellet into a crowded room, swoop down and destroy the enemies one by one before climbing back on to a gargoyle overlooking the room feels awesome. As they realise they are being picked off the fear and chaos slowly starts to affect their focus. As the story progresses and as you complete various side quests youll encounter many more villains and allies from the Batman universe. Playing as Catwoman as you slowly sneak your way around enemies also provides a different feeling from the sections as Batman. The hundreds of Riddler trophies also test you to explore every inch of Arkham. Finally playing a great Batman game and being able to feel like the Dark Knight himself, means this game deserves its place on the list.
