18. Vulcan Raven Reveals The True Identity Of The DARPA Chief - MGS
After Snake topples Vulcan Raven in the warehouse, Raven reveals a significant piece of information. Raven hints ‘the man you saw die before your eyes’ was not the DARPA Chief but in fact Decoy Octopus.
During the first playthrough, this revelation leaves the player nonplussed. Why would the terrorists switch Octopus with Donald Anderson?
As the events of the latter half of the game unfold, it appears Raven was foreshadowing the event of Snake arming Metal Gear Rex, as opposed to disarming it as he originally believed. The terrorists were unsuccessful in their attempts of gaining the launch code from Anderson and decided it best to fool Snake into arming Rex instead.
Raven’s death isn’t as heartfelt as others. He remains a warrior until the very end. However, before being consumed by the birds which surround him, Raven shares his hint in an elusive, entertaining and erudite manner, making him one of the franchises more memorable villains.
