20 Best Ever E3 Moments
9. Gabe Newell Appears At Sony's Conference (2010)
Back in 2010, the weirdness of Valve president Gabe Newell showing his face at a Sony E3 press conference couldn't be understated - it just seemed like the last thing in the world he would do.
After all, in 2007 Newell famously called the PS3 a "waste of everybody's time," due to feeling that Sony's investment in the console's tricky Cell processor would hobble them down the road - a belief that turned out to be 100% correct.
Yet showing they had no hard feelings, Sony invited Newell onto their stage to reveal that Portal 2 was coming to PS3. But before he did that, he opened his speech with a self-deprecating note about his prior remarks:
"Now, I've been pretty outspoken in my comments about the current gen of game consoles, so I'd really like to thank everyone at Sony for their gracious hospitality, and for not repeatedly punching me in the face."
