20 Best Game Boy & Game Boy Colour Games Of All Time
2. The Legend Of Zelda: Link's Awakening
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is many people's favourite Zelda game for a reason. It's weird, morbid, yet dream-like and fun.
In Link's Awakening, you play as Link as he gets caught in a storm at sea and falls into the dreams of the Wind Fish. Here he meets numerous interesting characters like Marin, a girl who clearly has a thing for Link. It's pretty cute.
The game's twist is what makes it such a weirdly dark game. I won't spoil it for the two people who have managed to avoid spoilers but just know it'll give you a lot to think about as the credits roll.
The gameplay feels a lot like A Link to the Past but includes enough unique aspects to make it its own thing such as an increased emphasis on platforming. In these platforming segments you'll meet enemies from the Mario series, did I say that this game was weird yet?
It got an updated version for the Game Boy Colour, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX which adds colour and an extra dungeon. This was the definitive version of the game until the excellent Switch remake came out in 2019.
