20 Best Game Boy & Game Boy Colour Games Of All Time
12. Mario Tennis
Mario Tennis for the Game Boy has very little to do with Mario. It doesn't even focus as much on tennis as you'd think it would.
In Mario Tennis, you control either Alex or Nina as you attend the Royal Tennis Academy where you must grind out your tennis skills, make friends with other students, and become the best tennis player in your school and eventually the world.
If you want to become the best tennis player though, you're going to have to beat the world tennis champion. Mario.
Look, Mario, you can’t just become a world-class doctor, a medal-winning Olympian in every sport, and the best tennis player in the world, there's just not enough hours in the day to learn all of those skills.
So yeah, you go to school, there are lengthy chats with other classmates between actual tennis matches, and it's only right at the very end that it becomes anything to do with Mario.
No matter how weird it is though it's still an amazing game, and dare I say better than the N64 version. It's essentially a playable sports anime that turns into a Mario game in the final act, what could be better than that?
