13. The Final Fantasy Legend

Since almost every Final Fantasy game takes place in a different world Square Enix can technically throw the Final Fantasy branding onto any fantasy game and guarantee increased sales in the west without much suspicion.

This is exactly what happened with The Final Fantasy Legend, a game that isn't even a real Final Fantasy game but is instead the first in the SaGa series.

To be fair though without this knowledge nothing seems un-Final Fantasy-y with this game. It's a turn-based game where four heroes must travel a world to find and scale a giant tower that apparently leads to paradise. That sounds a lot like a Final Fantasy game to me.

The thing is even if it isn't really a part of the series, it doesn't mean it's not an amazing game. The Final Fantasy Legend is one of the best turn-based JRPGs on the system.

If you end up liking the game then there are other SaGa games to enjoy as well with two other great games in the franchise existing on the Game Boy, SaGa 2: Hihou Densetsu and SaGa 3: Jikuu no Hasha... oh sorry, I mean Final Fantasy Legend II and Final Fantasy Legend III.
