Granted The Fall came out on PC in 2014, but has just recently made the leap to consoles by getting a PS4 and Xbox One release. Think The Swapper's awesomely gloomy and dank aesthetic, then factor in one of the best sci-fi stories told in recent years and you've got this awesome side-scrolling action-platformer. Putting you control of an A.I. activated to keep its pilot alive following a crash, you're tasked with bringing your suit's systems back online by journeying through the installation you've landed in. The budgetary restraints come into focus when getting used to the very basic movement you have, but they're only in service of drip-feeding you the plight of this computer program desperately trying to revive its master. Come the close of the game you'll have experienced one of the most well-told character-focussed stories in years, complete with a world that's just drenched in atmosphere and foreboding threat, leading to a killer plot twist that honestly left me reeling.
